SCOPE OF POSITION
The Comprehensive Wound Center In-patient PA for Continuity of Care organizes and coordinates the delivery of inpatient wound services and functions as clinical liaison between inpatients, primarily at UH, Dodd, Ross, & James and outpatient wound care. Working with the Dept. of Plastic Surgery inpatient wound care team, the PA leads the collaborative effort to identify inpatients in need of continued care in the outpatient setting, assists in the education and transition of these patients. The PA collaborates with Patient Care Unit staff, Enterostomal Nurses, CWC staff, Nurse Manager, Program Director, Dept. of Plastic Surgery faculty and Program Director of the wound center. PA acts as an integral member of the patient care and support services team to achieve patient outcomes and improve service levels.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for conducting inpatient wound care consults, histories and physicals, rounds, writing orders and progress notes, preparation for and assisting in surgery, bedside sharp debridement, and other minor surgical procedures, coordinating the transfer of care to outpatient clinics, documentation and billing of services. All clinical duties are performed under the supervision of the designated physician(s). The PA serves as a resource for staff and family. They identify and link appropriate patients to research initiatives and support hyperbaric treatments and wound care clinic operations.
EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited surgical physician assistant program or equivalent combination of education and experience. National Certification Commission for Physician Assistant (NCCPA) certification. Eligibility for State of Ohio licensure as a surgical physician assistant. Experience and Certification in Wound Care and/or Hyperbarics is preferred. Prior management/assistant management experience along with operative experience is preferred.
