This new law expands the authority of Physician Assistants (and our Advanced Practice Registered Nurse colleagues) in the context of laser hair removal in Ohio.
Previously, only physicians could delegate and supervise laser hair removal procedures performed by nurses or laser hair removal professionals. Under this new law, PAs can now take on that same role, assigning the hands-on work to qualified staff and overseeing them, as long as the PA already has an active supervision agreement with a physician and follows all the same rules and standards that would apply to a physician doing the same thing.
OAPA was proud to provide proponent testimony in both the House and Senate as this bill made its way through the legislative process. Wherever there is opportunity for PA practice to advance, OAPA is there.
OAPA thanks the bill's sponsor, Representative Kellie Deeter, and the unanimous support by both the Ohio Senate and Ohio House in passing this piece of legislation.
Thank you also to all members who have contributed to the OAPA Legislative Fund and OAPA PAC. The effort to advance practice for Ohio PAs is ongoing, and it cannot be done without financial support.
To further help us advance PA practice through government advocacy, please support the OAPA Legislative Fund and the OAPA Political Action Committee!
