Susan Allan Block has been added to the board of directors of Block Communications Inc. in Toledo.
Ms. Block was appointed by the BCI board of directors at a meeting on Tuesday, and will be on a slate of directors to be elected by shareholders at the company’s annual shareholder meeting in January, said Block Communications Chairman Allan Block.
Block Communications is a leading multimedia company whose properties include The Blade, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Buckeye Broadband cable and Internet in northwest Ohio, MaxxSouth Broadband in parts of Mississippi and Alabama, and television stations in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. The company also is a national voice, data, and security systems provider through Telesystem. The Toledo-based company is privately held.
Ms. Block has worked for Glenview Capital, a New York City-based hedge fund. She also has been involved with boutique hotel developer Ian Schrager Co., in pharmaceutical sales, the fashion industry, and she previously opened a Vendome pastry business in Toledo.
Ms. Block serves in a variety of civic and charitable capacities as well. She is a trustee of Lourdes University, a Catholic university in Sylvania, and she is Toledo representative to the Ohio Arts Council, a statewide organization that supports arts and artists.
Ms. Block also is a member of a special advisory group for the Toledo Area Humane Society. She is a past board member of the Toledo Zoo, the YMCA, and the Toledo Children’s Hospital Foundation.
