Steve Fry Announces Retirement

Steve Fry to Set Sail on New Adventure

After 39 years in the Ohio cable industry, former OCTA President and Honorary Member Steve Fry has announced his retirement from Time Warner Cable, effective at the end of this year. A champion of cable industry innovation and an outstanding corporate citizen in his community, Steve will be sorely missed by his many friends in the OCTA.

Steve Fry literally "climbed the ladder" at Time Warner Cable. A native of Canton, Fry attended Ohio University. He joined Warner Cable in 1970 as an installer in the North Canton system, climbing ladders and providing new service to customers. From 1973 to 1980, he held various management positions at the Columbus, Ohio cable system, including Installation Supervisor, Plant Manager, and finally Director of Technical Operations for the renowned Warner QUBE system. In 1981, Steve was promoted to General Manager of the greater Akron system, and became President of the Northeast Ohio Division when it was created in July 1990. The Division currently has more than 1,000,000 customer relationships in Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Steve's impact is evident in many of the major innovations in cable communication, from development of the QUBE two-way interactive network, where program channels like Nickelodeon and MTV were born, to bringing high-speed online computer services, digital phone and video-on-demand to communities throughout northeast Ohio.

Steve has been a dedicated leader in the company, industry and the community. He served as President of the Great Lakes Cable Television Association and was inducted into the Great Lakes Cable Expo Hall of Fame in 2003 for his outstanding achievements and his contribution to the industry's overall advancement. He is a former chairman of the United Way Pacesetter Campaign, and the Sugartown Express for the Diabetes Association. He serves on the boards of Leadership Akron, the Greater Cleveland Partnership and the American Heart Association, and was recognized as a distinguished corporate leader representing Time Warner Cable at the American Heart Association's 2005 Heart Gala. He was named the 2008 "Communicator of the Year" by the Cleveland Chapter International Association of Business Communicators and received the 2009 "Executive Leadership IMAGE Award" from the OCTA.

A strong supporter of the OCTA who served multiple terms on its Board of Directors and as President, and who fought hard and winningly on issues important to our industry in Ohio, Steve is someone we have long counted on for his sharp insights and his leadership. The OCTA congratulates Steve on his many achievements, and we wish him well as he moves on to a new phase of a life well-travelled.
