Oduwole “Wally” Bakare, vice president of operations for Time Warner Cable’s Mid-Ohio Division, has been named one of Business First’s “40 Under 40” for 2010.
The business newspaper’s recognition honors those in the business community under 40 who show a professional drive and community involvement.
“We are so very proud of Wally’s accomplishments,” said Mark Dunford, regional vice president of operations for the Mid-Ohio Division. “Wally is a true professional who cares about our customers’ experience. And, he is dedicated to being involved in the community.”
Bakare, 38, has been vice president of operations at Mid-Ohio since May 2009. From April 2008 to May 2009, Bakare served as vice president and general manager for the company’s Southeast Ohio area. Bakare served as vice president/general manager of the Regional Voice Service for Time Warner Cable’s Los Angeles operations from May 2006 to April 2008.
Bakare has also held senior positions with Comcast Cable in Baltimore and in Virginia and other positions with Nextel Communications in Virginia, Hydro Air Industries in Maryland and with the Omatek Corp. in Lagos, Nigeria.
In 2009, Bakare was named one of the “Most Influential Minorities in Cable” by CableFAX Magazine.
In community service, Bakare, who holds graduate degrees from the University of Maryland and the University of Lagos and an undergraduate degree from Lagos State University, serves as the board vice president for Starr Commonwealth Columbus (formerly known as the Hannah Neil Center).
He also serves as a volunteer on the marketing committee of Junior Achievement of Central Ohio and as a volunteer with The Ohio State University’s Todd A. Bell National Resource Center on the African American Male. Bakare is also a volunteer coach with The Vineyard Community Center Career Clinic in Westerville and as a mentor with the Oakmont Elementary School Young Gents Club in Columbus.
Bakare and the others being recognized will be honored at a dinner and awards ceremony on May 27 at the Hyatt on Capitol Square.
