Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Township Fire and Rescue, Clermont County Wayne Township is in northeastern Clermont County, Ohio. The township consists of thirty-two square miles and an additional contracted EMS service of 9.8 miles in Jackson Township. The township is rural with the unincorporated Village of Newtonsville in the southern portion of the township. The department responds from two stations and has a staff of a full time Fire Chief, Full time Deputy Fire Chief, full time Assistant Chief, six full time firefighter Paramedics and EMT’s and 18 Paid on Call personnel. The department responds to approximately 750 fire and EMS calls annually.
Salary Range: $60,000.00 to $75,000.00 based upon qualifications, Health Benefits to include medical, dental and vision: Employee pays 10% and township pays 90%, Life Insurance: The township pays for a $15,000.00 policy, Ohio Police and Fire Pension: Township pays 14% and employee pays 12.5%, Vacation: New employees accrue two weeks’ vacation annually and becomes progressively higher based upon additional years of employment, and Personal Time: The township provides 24 hours annually.
Wayne Township is currently seeking a highly qualified, experienced, and dynamic fire service professional to fill the position of Deputy Fire Chief. Work is reviewed by the Fire Chief for the accomplishment of goals and adherence to local, state, and federal rules and regulations. The Deputy Fire Chief will oversee all aspects of the department including overseeing daily operations, emergency incident response, and professional development of all fire and EMS personnel. Supervision is exercised over Captains, Lieutenants and all fire suppression and EMS personnel. Administers all duties and responsibilities of the Fire Chief in their absence. Essential Functions of work: (May not include all duties performed, a complete Job Description will be provided on request). Under the guidance of the Fire Chief the Deputy Fire Chief plans, organizes, prioritizes, and directs the activities of the Fire Department, and ensures the total operational effectiveness of the Fire Department to all types of hazards and medical emergencies. Plans and trains staff for emergency situations, responds to fire and EMS emergencies and directs the emergency response through the incident command system. Assists in the development and implementation of department goals and objectives. Develops and authors reports, evaluates subordinates and provides presentations to the Fire Chief. Make pay recommendations and interviews and take disciplinary actions, as needed. Works with southwest Ohio Fire and EMS agencies to provide better services, assist in developing and maintaining the automatic and mutual aid program. Establishes and maintains a good working relationship with community groups, agencies, and the media, performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: A minimum of five years progressively responsible experience as a fire officer including supervisory experience. An associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred. Extensive knowledge of fire suppression and emergency medical methods, practices and techniques required. Extensive knowledge of fire and emergency response equipment operation and maintenance. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, coordinate, assign and evaluate the work of subordinate employees. Extensive knowledge of safety standards and precautions in fire and EMS response.
Must be certified Ohio Firefighter 2, Ohio Paramedic, and Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certified. Ohio Fire and EMS Instructor certification preferred. Must possess a valid Ohio Vehicle Operator’s license free from excessive violations. Fire Investigation certification and Plan Review certification preferred.
