News from the State Fire Marshal's Office...

While we have been fortunate so far this winter, the cold and snow look to be quickly coming our way. This is typically the time we see Ohioans turning to alternative heat sources. We must ensure that they know how to use them properly and avoid relying solely on the devices. This is the time to talk with your local media – they are looking for weather related stories. Give them a good prevention story filled with fire safety tips – it could save a life.

Remember that the HEAP program is available to low income Ohioans. Information on the program can be found here.

Also remember that your local chapter of the American Red Cross can also help you with smoke alarm canvassing. Contact them today to plan your event. This too could save a life.

Finally, your local Area Agency on Aging (AAA for short!) can help you reach your older and disabled population. These folks typically represent some of our high risk groups, so please reach out to your local offices to set up a program.

If you need any contact information for these agencies, please contact Lindsey Burnworth at (614) 995-5791 or lindsey.burnworth@com.state.oh.us.
