Hosted by Chad Wissinger, Forensic Lab Bureau Chief and Brian Peterman, Fire Explosion and Investigation Bureau Assistant Chief, they will be discussing the modern day concepts of fire investigation with topics such as methodology, evidence preservation and collection, scene examinations, writing the origin and cause report, and legalities for the investigator.
The world of fire investigation is constantly evolving with development and continued updates in NFPA 921 The Guide to Fire and Explosion Investigations. This guide has continued to improve the fire investigation process and quality of information on fires as it relates to origin and cause investigations. NFPA also continues to improve upon NFPA 1033 The Standard Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigators. NFPA 1033 establishes the Job Performance Requirements (JPR's) for investigators and requires investigators to remain current on topics as it relates to fire investigation. In addition to 921 and 1033, a new NFPA standard has recently been introduced to the fire investigation world - NFPA 1321 Standards for Fire Investigation Units.
