Summary:

This training program is designed for embalmers and funeral practitioners seeking to deepen their skills in embalming, restorative art, and cosmetic mortuary theory. It is presented in collaboration with the Ohio Embalmers Association.

This training program is designed for embalmers and funeral practitioners seeking to deepen their skills in embalming, restorative art, and cosmetic mortuary theory. It brings these disciplines together into one integrated, case-based framework that supports natural, dignified, open-casket outcomes.

The program combines lecture, demonstration, and case review to create a practical learning experience grounded in real-world application. Participants move from embalming foundations and case analysis into restorative techniques for trauma and donor cases, and conclude with cosmetic application methods that restore dignity and achieve a natural, peaceful presentation.

Case-based instruction includes donor cases, trauma restorations, discoloration, and other complex restorative challenges, ensuring participants gain skills that can be applied immediately in practice.

With a background in both studio art and mortuary science, the instructor offers a dual perspective that blends technical precision with artistic insight, strengthening both case decision-making and presentation outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

• Perform comprehensive embalming analysis to establish clear case goals and outcomes
• Select and apply chemical treatments based on case needs
• Implement restorative techniques for trauma, lacerations, discoloration, and tumor removal cases
• Confidently manage donor cases, including eye restoration and compromised tissue repair
• Apply cosmetic mortuary theory through color correction, blending, and layering for natural presentation

Amanda Marie Eilis King, CFSP, MBIT, & MSP, is an Embalmer and Funeral Director holding licensure in multiple states in the US. She completed her embalming apprenticeship under Vernie R. Fountain, as well as extensive training in postmortem reconstructive work. In addition to her AAS in Mortuary Science from ACC in Colorado, Amanda holds a B.S. from Skidmore College for Studio Art and Biology, and a Post-Baccalaureate degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She is also an educator who specializes in and teaches reconstructive work and cosmetic application. Her contributions in the field outside of the funeral home include articles, illustrations, and photography for trade journals. Currently she is a funeral director and embalmer for B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, and also does freelance work as AMEK Graphics, as well as being an embalming specialist with Frigid Fluid Company and content expert & course designer for Mortuary Training LLC.
