Robert R. “Bob” Brehm, age 77 of Wauseon, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He was born in Wauseon on May 22, 1945 to the late Duane H. and Helen C. (Curtis) Brehm. Bob, or as his family and friends call him, Butch, graduated from Gorham-Fayette High School. After graduation, he entered the United States Army, serving in Germany during the Vietnam War. On August 3, 1970, he married Myrtle L. Wilson in Angola, Indiana, and she survives.
After Bob’s honorable discharge from the Army, he began working in manufacturing, spending most of his time at the former American Gauge in Wauseon. After the birth of his son, Bob entered the Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Academy and eventually became a patrolman in the City of Wauseon. Throughout his career, he climbed through the ranks, retiring as Police Chief in 2003.
Golf was a major past-time for Bob. He and his friends would hit the links any chance they had and would often take golf trips together. He also enjoyed many years as a seasonal camper at Sunny’s Campground. He was a member of the Wauseon VFW, Wauseon American Legion, the former Elks Club in Wauseon, and the Delta Eagles.
Surviving is his wife, Mert; son, Bob; granddaughter, Kendra (Blake) Rotterdam; great-grandson, Hayden; sister, Mary Ellen Chase; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol (Roger) Prior and Patricia (James) Blosser; and Neale Chase.
Funeral services for Bob will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at the First Church of God in Wauseon, with Pastor Maryann Reimund, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Wauseon Union Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 2:00 – 8:00 PM, at the Eagle-Marry Funeral Home in Fayette.
