Dominick J. Astorino

Dominick J. Astorino holds degrees in cellular biology, mortuary science, and forensic medicine. He serves on the faculty of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago and Wayne State University in Detroit, where he teaches embalming, restorative art, and pathology.

A recognized leader in the field, Dominick has published extensively and is frequently invited to lecture across North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. Guided by his belief in the transformative power of education and the societal importance of viewing the deceased, he has worked internationally to elevate standards of care in countries including Kenya, Trinidad, Hong Kong, and South Africa.

Licensed as a funeral director and embalmer in both Michigan and Illinois, Dominick has served on the restorative art curriculum review committee for the American Board of Funeral Service Education and provides expert witness testimony in mortuary science–related legal cases.

He is the author of Postmortem Restorative Art: Principles, Methods & Applications, widely regarded as a seminal text in mortuary science. The book reflects more than two decades of research and experience, offering an accessible and comprehensive exploration of restorative art and its vital connection to embalming and forensic medicine.
