A bill that provides Ohio podiatrists with statutory authority to administer the COVID-19 vaccine has been signed into law.
House Bill 6, which passed the House 96-2 in March and unanimously cleared the Senate on May 12, was signed into law by Governor DeWine last week.
The legislation is necessary because the State Medical Board of Ohio provided OHFAMA with an informal opinion that it is not within the scope of practice for podiatric physicians and surgeons to administer the COVID-19 vaccine despite the fact Governor DeWine signed a bill into law in November authorizing podiatrists to administer the flu vaccine.
The bill featured an emergency declaration, which means the legislation is effective as of May 14.
