Vince Pellegrini - 2001

McDonald High School

Vince was born and raised in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Clarion State University in 1963 and received his master's degree from West Virginia University in 1974. During both high school and college, Vince played baseball assisting his team as a "good field, no hit journeyman."

In 1963, Vince began his teaching career at Grand Valley High School. That year he started the school's firs-ever baseball team. His eleven year stay at Grand Valley, produced four sectional titles, two district titles, and two regional appearances. While at GV, Vince coached in three Tri-County (Lake-Geauga-Ashtabula) All-Star games. In 1974 Coach Pellegrini moved to McDonald High School in Trumbull County and instituted the first baseball program there. Vince's tenure at McDonald has resulted in eleven sectional titles, four district titles, one regional championship, and a state semifinal appearance in 1997. In his thirty-seven years of coaching, Pellegrini's won-lost record stands at 426-270 for a .612 winning percentage.

Coach Pellegrini has been honored as Trumbull County Coach of the Year ten times. He presently serves as a representative for the NEOBCA, coached in the NEOBCA All-star game at Jacobs Field in 1999, and coached in the 2000 Mizuno All-Ohio Series. Vince is in this 38th year as a social studies teacher.

He has been married to his wife, Mary Ellen Meier, for twenty-five years. They have three children - Heather Belgin, a graduate of Clarion University, Vince, a junior at Youngstown State, and Eric, a sophomore at Westminster College and a 1999 OHSBCA scholarship winner. The family also includes son-in-law, Bernie Belgin, a graduate of Clarion. The Pellegrinis reside in Girard.
