Who Should Attend?

The conference is not limited to county job and family services agencies. Standalone children services, child support, or workforce agencies as well as other community partners may attend the conference. More on registration can be found on the 'Registration' tab or at www.ojfsda.org/register.

Keynote Speaker

Matthew Selker

We are excited to welcome Matt Selker to the conference to provide the opening keynote address. Matt is an organizational leader and scholar-practitioner in the space of organizational performance and leadership development. His passion is for developing managers and leaders at all levels, as doing so fulfills his personal and professional mission of helping others achieve their best self through the use of science, experiences, and conversations.

In 2021, after the diagnosis of, radiation to treat, and recovery from an aggressive form of thyroid cancer which eventually spread to his voice box, Matt received a voice prosthesis implant ensuring he could return to doing what he loves. He continues to demonstrate that a disability is not an identity, but rather a unique lens through which to view the world.

Modern to Post-Modern Leadership: Discovering the Difference

How we lead people has changed dramatically in the last two decades. Today, organizations - and the people within them - are opportunities to be harnessed rather than problems to solve.

In this keynote, Matt Selker, MPA will discuss these different styles of leadership, sharing the results of his lived experiences and observations working with supervisors, managers, and leaders across Ohio's county JFS organizations. His practical tips will help us discover that we can all be effective leaders.

Dependable Training Tracks

In addition to a motivating opening keynote, the conference offers over 55 breakout sessions in a variety of training areas provided by program, policy, and issue experts. These areas include competency and professional development, fiscal, workforce, public assistance, Medicaid, human resources, management and supervision, adult protective services, and more.

Adult Protective Services Scholarships

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services’ Adult Protective Services section is the proud sponsor of this year’s APS training track of six comprehensive sessions and offering corresponding training certificates that fulfill APS state training requirements.

To encourage attendance, ODJFS is offering scholarships for county APS staff to attend one or both days of the conference. To be eligible, the attendee must register to attend all APS sessions for the days they attend the conference (3 sessions for one day or 6 sessions for two days).

Information regarding scholarship eligibility, and how to register for the conference once granted a scholarship, is being made available by ODJFS. To find out more, please contact the ODJFS APS section via email at APS_mailbox@jfs.ohio.gov.

Volunteers

The conference would not be possible without our resolute volunteers acting in the role of session volunteers and monitors to ensure sessions run smoothly and a small token of our appreciation is given to each confirmed volunteer.

Volunteers are asked to pick up a packet of information before their session starts and read a brief script to begin the session. Monitors provide additional support, especially in larger session rooms, and could be asked to take on the role of volunteer if needed. Every effort is made to assign volunteers and monitors to sessions they registered for.

Those who have not volunteered at a previous conference are required to join a brief virtual orientation April 30 from 10-10:30AM to familiarize them with their role and responsibilities.

Check the box at the bottom of your registration form if we can count on you to join us!

Ask The Fiscal Expert

Some of the most common questions are around fiscal and monitoring. What’s not always easy? Finding the right question to ask. Adding to the challenge? The fact that the answers we sometimes receive to the same question can vary depending on who, what, where, when, and how we ask the question.

To put faces with emails and voices on the phone, the Bureau of County Finance and Technical Assistance and Office of Fiscal and Monitoring Services will be staffing tables during the conference offering a more informal opportunity to discuss matters big or small. Even if you don’t have any burning questions, stop by and say hi and introduce yourself!

ODM County Engagement Team

Ever found yourself sitting at your desk wondering about where a process came from and why you are doing it? Or wondering if your county's approach aligns with others? Here's your golden chance to get those questions answered!

Visit the Ohio Department of Medicaid's county engagement team during the conference to confer directly with your county engagement managers. This is an opportunity to ask questions about county business processes, share your thoughts, and gain insights. ODM's expert team is ready and eager to address your queries, discuss solutions, and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

Support The Conference

Today’s human services workforce faces a complex and quickly changing environment. The OJFSDA Annual Training Conference is one of the most notable occasions for Ohio’s job and family services professionals to engage with thought leaders and innovators in the field, giving them the opportunity to discuss topics on a deeper, more personal level. As the largest event of its kind in the state, this two-day event provides a blended learning environment with multiple ways for the over 1000 attendees to hear and share ideas. Our mission is to provide conference goers with meaningful education and training on the systems, policies, programs, and skills that are integral to their work, so they leave feeling more empowered and connected to their peers than when they arrived.

We invite you to add your unique presence to the event through March 22, 2024 by discovering which of our sponsor or exhibitor packages, including our new exclusive sponsorship packages, best suits you. Together, we can inspire attendees to discover what the work means to them and make new connections that will prepare them for the future.

QUESTIONS? Contact Becca Krelko, Conference Coordinator, at rkrelko@ojfsda.org or (614) 221-3688 x4.
