Opponents of the bill expressed concerns that it would:
  1. Discourage Vaccinations: The bill could reduce vaccination rates for various infectious diseases, endangering public health in Ohio.
  2. Increase Health Risks: Vulnerable populations such as infants, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals could face higher risks of preventable diseases.
  3. Undermine Workplace Safety: Employers would lose the ability to set vaccination-related health and safety policies tailored to their business needs, potentially increasing workplace hazards.
  4. Threaten Public Health Gains: Opponents argue that reduced vaccination rates would reverse decades of progress in disease prevention and increase the likelihood of future outbreaks and epidemics.
The coalition opposing HB 319 stresses that vaccines are critical to maintaining public health and preventing the spread of serious diseases. They warn that the legislation could have far-reaching negative consequences for public health and safety in Ohio.
