Are you a pharmacist providing immunizations or CLIA-waived testing services? If so, you must have Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training every year. OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) describes safeguards to protect all employees who could be “reasonably anticipated” to face contact with blood and other potentially infectious materials. OSHA’s fines for non-compliance can exceed $90,000.
• Initial and annual training on hazards associated with exposure to biohazards and the protective measures to minimize risk
• Additional training needed when existing tasks are modified or new tasks are added
• Training must include an opportunity for interactive Q&A with the person conducting the training (i.e., live program or webinar).
• Training records must be maintained for 3 years from the date training occurred and must include dates of training, contents or a summary of the training session, who conducted the training, and the names and job titles of all attending the training session.
