How did you get interested in the profession of pharmacy? I have always been interested in the profession of pharmacy. I have an aunt and a cousin who are both pharmacists, so I was aware of the profession from a young age and it always interested me. I have always known I wanted a career in the medical field, and pharmacy is a great way to help patients in a variety of settings.

Why did you choose OPA as a rotation? I knew OPA was an option for a rotation site, and I had heard good things about OPA as a site. After speaking with the APPE director, who recommended OPA to me, I decided it would be a good experience, and a good way to learn more about what OPA does for the profession of pharmacy.

What was the most significant or surprising experience at OPA? I feel that learning about the legislative processes which go on in pharmacy really opened my eyes into the importance of OPA and the need for pharmacists to be involved in the decision making process. Without OPA, it is clear that major decisions could be made which affect pharmacy, without any pharmacist involvement. I also thought attending the meetings at the OPA office was beneficial, as it allowed me to see what goes on behind the scenes, especially the Board of Trustee’s Meeting. Overall, this was a very good rotation site, and I learned more about the profession of pharmacy.

What other pharmacy associations/organizations do you belong to? APhA
