Save the Date for Required OSHA Training Programs for Immunizing Pharmacists

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens standard was revised by the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act of 2000 to include safer medical devices and an exposure control plan. Immunizing pharmacists and others exposed to blood must meet the requirements of this standard, including annual training, or they will risk facing huge fines. OPA will be offering a webinar format for pharmacists to comply with this OSHA standard. The speaker will discuss potential blood borne hazards, safer practices designed to reduce/avoid needlestick and other sharps injuries, and effective post-exposure procedures. To accommodate various work schedules, this program will provide the opportunity for interactive questions.

If you administer immunizations and have not completed such a training within the last 12 months, now is your opportunity. To accommodate various work schedules this webinar will be offered July 10 at 10 a.m.; July 30 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; August 1 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.; August 12 at 6 p.m.; and August 20 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The program will be made available soon, so save these dates fro when registration goes live at OPA's RxCEonDemand.com.
