CPT coding and documentation workshops in 2015

In 2013, there were significant changes to the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding system to reflect changes in clinical practice and reporting needs of psychiatrists, other physicians and other mental health professionals providing psychiatry, psychotherapy and behavioral health services.

Nearly two years later, there continues to be confusion and misunderstanding about how to accurately code and document these services.

The significant changes in coding have challenged psychiatrists to think in entirely new ways about describing what they do. Always available, the evaluation and management (E&M) codes were seldom used by psychiatrists, although they have been the essential codes used by other physicians since 1992. For the past two years, psychiatrists have had no choice but to use them and the new add-on therapy codes.

In addition to thoroughly covering E&M Services, this workshop will provide participants with the skills needed to ensure accurate coding and documentation when providing services related to therapy, psychopharmacology, and neuropsych – whether in private practices, nursing homes, day treatment centers, community mental health centers and/or hospitals.
