The Ohio Department of Medicaid, in partnership with the Medicaid managed care plans (MCPs), is moving toward creating a unified preferred drug list (PDL).
The goals of utilizing a PDL include:
- Allowing for a standard process across Ohio Medicaid fee-for-service (FFS) and the MCPs to support population health initiatives
- Reducing administrative burden for providers by simplifying and streamlining the prescribing and prior authorization processes
- Minimizing member movement across managed care plans.
The MCPs are communicating this change to physicians and other health care professionals. The Ohio Department of Medicaid will begin a phased-in approach of the unified PDL on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. The memo, which includes more information and a quick reference list for prescribers, and the full Ohio Medicaid preferred drug list are available online.
