Good news from here in the nation’s capital as we head into the final days of 2020. This week, Congress passed a historic COVID-19 relief package that includes funding to help states provide desperately needed mental health services.
Specifically, the Federal stimulus bill:
• Allocates $4.25B for psychiatric treatment, 10 times the amount that groups that treat mental health received in the last emergency spending bill.
• Includes a historic investment in emergency response and community mental services. This marks the first time in more than a half century that we have seen a new commitment of this size from the federal government.
• Funds local assisted outpatient treatment programs to the tune of $21M! We are glad to see Congress continuing its strong support for this vital program.
