Telepsychiatry proves crucial adjunct to primary care

Psychiatric News - A collaborative care model using telepsychiatry along with primary care improves response and remission in patients with depression in rural, underserved areas.

The usual model for collaborative mental health care locates specialists at primary care clinics, but including a full-time psychiatrist or psychologist at small practices, especially those in rural areas, can be impractical.

With that in mind, researchers at the University of Arkansas compared depression care using that traditional collaborative approach with one using an off-site multiprofessional team and telepsychiatry.

Also, earlier this week, Ohio lawmakers introduced a telehealth bill in Ohio. Representatives Gonzales and Wachtmann introduced H.B. 123, which would require Medicaid coverage of telehealth services.
