Some of the geographic Board seats will be up for election this summer. In a separate election, Joe Coney, M.D., (Cleveland) was selected as one of our Councilors to the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Coney is immediate past president of the OOS and will join Walker Motley M.D. (Cincinnati) as Ohio Councilors to the AAO.
Carl Minning, M.D. was presented the OOS Professional Service Award. Dr. Minning has served as legislative chair for at least 20 years, held numerous fundraisers, made many congressional visits, been actively involved in races for governor, senator and the Supreme Court. No ophthalmologist in Ohio has been more immersed in the political and advocacy process for the last three decades than Dr. Minning.
Dr. Ford closed the meeting by recognizing Dr. Kelly for his service as OOS president during the last two very challenging COVID years. Dr. Kelly took the helm of OOS two weeks before the pandemic start, led us through a fully virtual 2021 meeting and represented the OOS in meetings with policy makers and third-party payers. Ophthalmologists across Ohio appreciate his service and dedication.
