At our meeting we will elect a new governing council (more info about how to run coming soon), vote on resolutions to be forwarded to the OSMA House of Delegates, and more. This is an event you do not want to miss!
A whopping 51 resolution drafts have been submitted to our MSS this year, and are currently under review by volunteers from our Resolution Review Committee. Feedback should be submitted to authors by the end of the day on Dec 20th.
Additionally, in a brand new initiative to partner with other sections, physician volunteers have been paired with resolution authors to aid in the review process. Special thank you to the physician members and to OSMA Director of Policy & Legal Counsel, Sean McCullough, for organizing support for our section

On Monday Dec 16, we hosted an emergency testimony session regarding HB 475, where we discussed the legislative process, how to use the Ohio legislature website, the bill itself, and how to submit testimony. Many students applied their skills to prepare testimony and we are grateful that the bill did not ultimately move forward.
Looking to get more involved in advocacy? Your OSMA-MSS General Council has compiled a list of advocacy and mutual aid resources, including organizations that provide updates and education for legislation moving through the Ohio Statehouse.

If your summer internship is an unpaid one, the OSMA Foundation Summer Scholars stipend might be a good fit for you. Nearly half of short-term summer internship opportunities for medical career development are UNpaid. OSMA recognizes the financial challenges medical students face, and we're here to help remove barriers that might prevent you from pursuing a summer experience! The OSMA Foundation has created the Summer Scholars program to award $2,500 stipends to medical students across Ohio, helping to fill the financial gap of an unpaid internship.
