Pi Chi Omega President's Message: James Miller, ACE
Dear Pi Chi Omega Members,
While we all tend to the last few weeks of 2025 and prepare for the upcoming Holiday season, lets recap this amazing year for our Fraternity… Our now Immediate Past President Desiree Straubinger, BCE, CP-FS, has literally passed the Pi Chi Omega President’s gavel to me. I want to thank Desiree for being a friend and mentor while cutting my teeth as President-Elect. I would also like to thank the membership for bestowing faith in me to serve as their President for the next two years, the Board of Directors, Committee Chairpersons and of course our Executive Directors, Kristin and Andrea. Pi Chi Omega has the best people!
We have two major events scheduled to round out 2025, the Purdue Pest Management Conference (90th year) and the GPCA 2026 Athens Winter Conference. A Pi Chi Omega Board Meeting (1/11), Winter Membership Meeting & Luncheon (1/12), and a social at Harry's Chocolate Shop being co-sponsored by Pi Chi Omega and the Purdue Entomology Department (1/13) will be held during the Purdue Pest Management Conference. at the GPCA meeting, visit the Pi Chi Omega booth next to Trécé Inc. and attend the Raise the Bar social (1/13). And, yes, we we will be dueling to see which social event can raise the biggest pot during our 50/50 raffle to support Pi Chi Omega! I'm rooting for team Purdue as I'll be attending that event, but our Immediate Past President, Desiree Straubinger will be hosting the event in Georgia, and I already know she's a tough act to beat! Either way, Pi Chi Omega (and two lucky winners), come out on top and everyone enjoys a great time.
Pest World 2025 Orlando was a BEAST and well attended, our membership meeting was almost standing room only! We conducted our elections, had awards ceremonies and a stellar Raise the Bar social event. It was our exceptional honor to recognize two deserving members for their service to our organization and the industry - please read about the Generosity Award presented to Johnalyn Gordon, Ph.D. and the Achievement Award to Gary Bennett, Ph.D.
The 11th edition of the Mallis Handbook has just been released! Get your copy of the "bible of pest control" through PCT.
Please help spread the world with your colleagues and industry partners, Pi Chi Omega would love to have them apply for membership, seek funding via our scholarship and industry grant programs and add to our fraternity. Our next membership deadline is December 5th! Pi Chi Omega has also re-launched a special online auction of Stoy Hedges collection of the Mallis Handbook - volumes 4 through 10 - so if you want a special volume, check out our live auction!
I will see everyone in 2026 at Purdue University. Please enjoy our Holiday Season and I wish you all a Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
James F. Miller, ACE
