We are very pleased to announce that Andrea A. Lunsford will give the keynote address at the 2018 biennial conference of the RSA in Minneapolis, MN. In celebration of the society’s 50thAnniversary. She has titled her talk, “RSA at 50: (Re)Inventing Our Story.”
Andrea A. Lunsford is Louise Hewlett Nixon Professor of English emerita and was the founding director of the Program in Writing and Rhetoric and the Hume Center for Writing and Speaking at Stanford University. The first graduate student to be examined in the emerging field of rhetoric and composition at Ohio State, her primary coursework was in the Department of Communication, since her mentor, Edward P.J. Corbett, was not yet teaching courses in rhetoric. Her interdisciplinary perspective on rhetoric has influenced her work in the field. Lunsford is most recently known for her landmark study of undergraduate writers, which largely dispelled the myth that social media was destroying student writing. She is also well known for her advancement of multimodal communication, collaborative writing, feminist rhetoric, literacy studies, and intellectual property rights.
Professor Lunsford is author, co-author or co-editor of 21 books, including several popular composition textbooks and readers. Her scholarly work includes Singular Texts/Plural Authors (with Lisa Ede); the edited books The Sage Handbook of Rhetorical Studies (with Kirt H. Wilson and Rosa A. Eberly), Reclaiming Rhetorica: Women in the Rhetorical Tradition, and CrossingBorderlands: Composition and Postcolonial Studies (with Lahoucine Ouzgane); and over 100 journal articles and chapters in books. She is currently at work on The Norton Anthology of Rhetoric and Writing, which she is co-editing with Susan Jarratt. A tireless spokesperson for the field, she has presented more than 500 speeches, lectures, workshops, and papers in the last 10 years alone. Her professional leadership includes Co-chair of the Alliance of Rhetoric Societies International Conference (2002-03), and Chair of the Conference on College Composition and Communication (1989-90). She has received many awards and honors, including the Exemplar Award from the Conference on College Composition and Communication, the MLA Mina P. Shaughnessy Award for best book on the teaching of writing, and the YWCA Women of Achievement Award (Columbus).
Please plan to join us in Minneapolis, May 31 - June 3, 2018, for the 18th biennial RSA conference. The deadline for submissions is fast approaching: July 15, 2017.
