Save the NEH—Take Action!

Save the NEH—Take Action!

As you may be aware, the budget proposal advanced by the Trump Administration has once again proposed the permanent elimination of the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities, as well as the elimination of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (and with it virtually all federal library funding).  This is of vital concern to us all as humanists and as educators.  Last year these agencies were spared by vote of the House of Representatives.  In the short term, it is important that we each become advocates to our individual representatives and senators about the importance of the NEA, NEH, and IMLS (which are, I may add, a miniscule part of the Federal Budget). Another is to participate in Humanities Advocacy Day sponsored by the National Humanities Alliance on March 13 (http://www.nhalliance.org/2018_had) . We are asscociated with NHA through our membership in ACLS (American Council of Learned Societies).

In the longer term, RSA will share additional information on our website that will help us each in creating an effective response.  This is going to be a long struggle on behalf of the humanities, but as our efforts proved last year, the collective action of those who value the humanities can make a difference.
