THE RSA/ISHR SEMINAR AT THE 2010 RSA CONFERENCE
EPIDEICTIC RHETORIC
Directed by Laurent Pernot
RSA, in cooperation with the International Society for the History of Rhetoric (ISHR), will offer an extraordinary seminar at Minneapolis on "Epideictic Rhetoric" focusing on the scope, function, utility, and history of this genre. It will be conducted by Laurent Pernot of the University of Strasbourg, past president of the ISHR, and an eminent scholar of the history of rhetoric. Among his many other publications, Professor Pernot has authored a survey of classical rhetoric, La rhetorique dans l'antiquite, which has been translated into English (under the title Rhetoric in Antiquity) and published by Catholic University Press.
This intensive seminar will meet for several hours on successive days during the conference, and RSA will try to avoid scheduling conflicts for participants. The seminar is open to all members of RSA and the ISHR, and we especially encourage participation by younger scholars. The seminar will be restricted to twenty participants; admission is by application only. Send a letter indicating the nature of your interest, your background in the subject, and your commitment to prepare for and attend all scheduled sessions. Address your letter to Lawrence D. Green, either by post to the English Dept., Taper 404, University of Southern California, 90089-0354, or by email at lgreen@usc.edu. Applications must be submitted before September 19, 2009 and notification of acceptance will be made by December 15, 2009.
