RSA Remote … OSU Press Coffee Hour: “Diversity and Inclusivity in Book Publishing”

This next session in the RSA Navigating Publishing series will continue to demystify publishing from all sides--offering the perspective of a series editor, two authors, and an acquisitions editor--while also tackling the topic of representation, diversity, and inclusivity in publishing. Some topics and questions we’ll cover include:

  • Why submit to a series and what do you need to be aware of when doing so?
  • How can you attend to diversity, representation, and inclusion in your book project, even if such issues are not part of your central argument?
  • How should you respond to peer review and when is it important to push back?
  • How is publishing grappling with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion? What are some issues facing publishing that authors should be aware of?
  • What are the current structural impediments to diversifying not only the scholars being published but also the editors acquiring their books? How are people within structures of power working to address these impediments? What is the place of non-marginalized scholars in this work?
  • What are some tips and resources for scholars from marginalized communities, or for those whose research topics or methodologies are not widely recognized in the field?

We will be sure to leave ample time for your own questions, and the acquisitions editor will hang around after the session to answer any additional questions.
