June 5-6, 2015 Southern Ohio Synod Assembly at Capital University in Columbus. Assembly plenary sessions will take place on Friday and Saturday, June 5 & 6. Most congregations may send two voting members, plus their rostered leaders.
All lay people of the Southern Ohio Synod are invited to attend one of the Visioning Process Listening Posts in your area during October and November 2014. Please spread the word in your congregation and gather as many people as possible to attend. Your part in the visioning process of the Southern Ohio Synod is crucial. Please note that these listening posts are geared toward lay people, but rostered leaders are also welcome to attend.
We invite you to send one person from your congregation to our Mission Interpreter Training Session on Saturday, October 25th at the synod office. This is the second year we have invited congregations that do not yet have a Mission Interpreter to send an interested person to this training. It is our goal in the Southern Ohio Synod to have at least one Mission Interpreter in every congregation.
The November 2014 issue is titled 'Should We Consider Closing Our Church?' and the December 2014 issue is titled 'How to Make the Most of a Consulting Process.'
In 2015, hunger leaders will gather at the Mid-Ohio Food Bank's warehouse and distribution facility in Grove City where we'll hear from our own Bishop Suzanne Dillahunt, as well as have an opportunity to tour the Mid-Ohio Food Bank facility, meet other like-minded Lutherans, learn how to: effectively promote and maintain a hunger ministry, successfully apply for an ELCA World Hunger Grant, where and how to advocate for hunger issues, and how to get a hunger ministry off the ground if you're just starting out. There's somehthing to learn and apply for everyone!

The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), offered prayers and a continued commitment to stand alongside people impacted by the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. In a Sept. 29 letter to Lutheran leaders there, Eaton expressed her concern for them and the communities in which they serve.
