The Texas Chemical Council is honored to recognize 87 member company sites for excellence in safety of their employees, neighbors and communities. Company representatives received their awards during the TCC/ACIT Awards Banquet on June 7th at Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston, Texas.
Safety and community are core priorities for the chemical industry in Texas and TCC is honored to recognize member sites that have demonstrated exceptional safety performance in the previous year, and sites who have shown outstanding dedication to the communities where they operate.
Among our top awards is the TCC “Best in Texas” Award, presented to the top facilities within each category that meet the criteria for Distinguished Safety Service and maintain a contractor safety program under TCC’s recommended guidelines for Contractor Safety. These facility applications are peer-reviewed by members of the OSC Awards Subcommittee who judge applications in different categories than their own.
We congratulate our Best in Texas winners:
Group One category winner (1 to 60 employees): Pure Salt – Mont Belvieu
Group Two category winner (61 to 200 employees): Dow Chemical – La Porte Operations
Group Three category (201 to 500 employees): Chemours – Ingleside
Group Four category (501 or more employees): Dow Chemical – Texas Operations, Freeport
The EHS Leadership Award was presented to Jerald “Mac” McMurrey of Chevron Phillips Cedar Bayou.
The Safety Professional of the Year is Steven Reed of BASF Corporation.
In 2018, TCC began a new award in collaboration with the Texas A&M Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center: an award for Distinguished Process Safety Initiative. The Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center’s students and faculty judged submissions in each facility category. Eligible applicants had to achieve a Zero Incident for 2017 and submit an essay that describes in detail their key process safety initiatives. Dr. Sam Mannan, Regent’s Professor in Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University and Executive Director of the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center, attended the banquet to announce our winners:
Group 1: Chevron Phillips Chemical – Alamo Plant
Group 2: OxyChem - Deer Park PVC
Group 3: Chevron Phillips Chemical – Pasadena Plastics
And Turner Industries, which for 55 years has provided turnkey heavy industrial services with an uncompromising commitment to integrity, was awarded with the ACIT Leadership Award.
