State Representative Carol Alvarado has won the special election for Texas Senate representing part of Harris County. The Special Election for Texas Senate District 6 was held on December 11th to fill former State Senator Sylvia Garcia’s vacated seat. Upon Congresswoman-Elect Garcia’s resignation, three Democrats: State Rep. Carol Alvarado, State Rep. Ana Hernandez, and Mrs. Mia Mundy, and Republican Martha Fierro, each filed for the office.
Senator-Elect Alvarado narrowly won without a runoff against three challengers with 50.4% of the vote. The next closest challenger, Representative Hernandez came in second, earning 24.3%. As of this update, Fierro is the only challenger who has not conceded the race in spite of Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick sending his congratulations to the Senator-Elect. TCC has worked closely with Senator-Elect Carol Alvarado in her time as a state representative, and will continue to do so in the Texas Senate.
Governor Greg Abbott will now determine a date for a special election to fill Senator-Elect Alvarado’s seat in House District 145, which consists of parts of southeast Houston and parts of Pasadena.
