Works of Five Members Accepted into the 2024 Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition

The Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition celebrates the talent of both amateur and professional artists of the Buckeye State and showcases a diverse range of paintings, sculptures, photographs and mixed media works. Approximately 1,500 entries were submitted this year for the highly competitive exhibition.

The photographs of five club members were accepted. In the amateur division, they are:

Frank Begun for Chobe River Sunset and Fiery-Throated Hummingbird
John Butterfield for Keep Holding On and Smokin’ Kitchen
Carrie Cartwright for A Prediction
Cherry Williams for Haunting at Greenlawn

In the professional division, two photos by Donna Winterswere selected: Fractured 1 and Hudson Egret.

Carrie Cartwright’s photograph Sunset Ridge Lavender Farm Enon, Ohio,
was also accepted in the Tiny Art Show, the first-ever, “show-within-a show for Ohio-themed artworks at the Cox Fine Arts Center. Her photo is six inches on each side. To be eligible for this show, artists had to have been accepted into the Fine Arts Exhibition.

In the amateur division, 108 works were accepted from 72 artists; 257 were accepted from 195 artists in the professional division.

The exhibition runs from July 24 to August 4, 10 a.m. to 9p.m. at the Cox Fine Arts Center, 717 E. 17th Ave.

 

COAAA Calendar Photo Contest Open; Club Members Are Past Winners

The Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging (COAAA) is accepting entries for its 2025 calendar contest. The calendar features a winning monthly photograph taken by photographers age 50-plus and advertisers of interest to the older adult population. Free, full-color 2025 calendars will be distributed to central Ohio senior and community centers in November 2024.

Photographers age 50 and older who live in the eight counties served by COAAA (Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Licking, Madison, Pickaway or Union) are invited to submit photos from these eight counties. Photos must be in color and in horizontal (landscape) orientation with image resolution sharp enough (300 dpi or higher) for enlargement to fit on a month of the calendar (11” wide x 8-1/2” tall). Maximum number of entries per photographer is five photos. 

Nine club members are past winners. They are: Pat Bendick, 2022; John Butterfield, 2024; Brenda Turner, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024; Linda Alvarado, 2022; Linda Fahrbach, 2021, 2022, 2024; Marcia Colucci, 2020, 2021; Mariangela Scavo-Manno, 2021, 2023; Philip Edelsberg, 2023, and Phyllis Hollifield, 2021.

Club Members Exhibit Work at Westerville Community Center

Twenty-three club members are displaying their photographs at the Westerville Community Center, 350 N.Cleveland Ave. The exhibit, arranged by club board member and exhibit committee chairperson Cheri Brent, runs until July 31. The center is open Monday through Friday 5:45 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Participating club members are: Gerry Allen, Dale Berlin, Cheri Brent, John Butterfield, Carrie Cartwright, Sue Day, Phil Edelsberg, Todd Elzey, Mark Fohl, Jon Harvey, Lee Flasche, Roberta Kayne, Ashe La Follette, Whit Martin, Stephen Organ, Angela Scavo, Sharon Telatnik, Tim Patterson, Eric Reidinger, Amanda Riegert, Paul Wilbur, Donna Winters and Dick Wood.

Earlier this year 25 members participated in an exhibit at the Riffe Center in downtown Columbus, also arranged by the club. The exhibit was from January 30 to March 24.
