Education night photo critique

Midwest Photo

Our club's May 4th education night meeting will be different. It is designed to be interactive while educational. Here's how it is planned:

1. Up to 30 members will upload a "best shot" to the Zenfolio folder named "May 4 Critique Hit Us With Your Best Shot." It is "Open" themed and level is irrelevant (novice, intermediate/advanced, and master all go into the same folder).
2. Each image will "star" for 3 minutes.
2a. We have 3 scorers (members who have experience with our scoring system from years past) who will use the club's electronic scoring machines to provide numerical scores based on a specific rubric.
2b. The image maker will have 1 minute to discuss, describe, and comment on their image. The scorers will provide positive critique feedback and club members in attendance will have sticky notepads to provide written tips and comments to the maker, as well.
2c. At the 3-minute mark we will display the next image and repeat the process.

Because the devil is always in the details, here are some to consider:
3. John Butterfield will "host" this educational meeting's process. Many of us have become comfortable and familiar with his dynamic hosting of the Photo Feedback Group and we appreciate his stepping up to assist with this educational event.
4. The scoring team of 3 will be: Audrey Begun, Mark Fohl, and Dick Wood.
5. The Zenfolio upload date will be used to determine the first 30--we'll be relying on a "first come, first served" strategy to limit us to the time we have available (about 90 minutes).
6. You must be present to participate so it is possible that later uploads (images number 31+) will be used if someone who submitted earlier does not show up on May 4th.

The rationale for this event is that a number of club members commented in our survey that they wish there was more chance for digital image feedback and more opportunity for constructive critique in general. Let's see how this pilot works--it may become more integrated next year if it turns out to be popular. This seemed like a great way to close out our educational night schedule for the season.
