Statement of Professional Identity

AmSAT seeks to promote the Alexander Technique as a fully independent and educational discipline that offers a vital contribution to our understanding of human behavior and consciousness. As such, AmSAT strives to strengthen the public's awareness of the Technique's distinct nature, and to prevent its becoming identified in combination with disciplines such as: somatic practices, Bodywork methods, movement therapies, and alternative healing techniques. While acting to maintain the profession's independence, AmSAT also recognizes the importance of responsibly protecting the public we serve by upholding high standards for the profession through voluntary self-regulation, and by working in conjunction with other organizations as necessary in order to better serve our overall goals.
