Director of Nursing

Greater Sacramento Surgery Center

Job Summary:

In this blended position, the Director of Nursing is a registered professional nurse who serves as the Director of the clinical team, ensures the center provides quality care through the performance of the clinical team, ensures patients experience excellent customer service from business office staff, maintains a safe environment for patients, manages all clinical staff, and prepares for accreditation.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supports and is committed to the mission and goals of the Greater Sacramento Surgery Center (GSSC).
  • Works closely with the Director of Quality & Billing for QAPI-related matters.
  • Oversee the Infection Control Preventionist/program under the direction of the QAPI Committee.
  • Serves on the Medical Director Peer Review Committee.
  • Serves on the Medical Executive Committee as a non-voting member.
  • Oversee all clinical areas, including Operating Room and Pre-Op/PACU Managers, Charge Nurses and all patient care personnel.
  • Work closely with HR manager and the Director of Quality & Billing to ensure patient care personnel are properly certified and abide by the standards for care established by the GSSC as well as state and federal laws.
  • Develops and maintains policies, procedures and protocols regarding patient care, including central supply and housekeeping. This responsibility is accomplished with the assistance of the Operating Room, Pre-OP and PACU Managers and Charge Nurses.
  • Will collaborate with the OR Manager and PACU Charge Nurses to recruit new hires.
  • Oversees Environment of Care program/Safety Program.
  • Develops and maintains current job descriptions for patient care personnel.
  • Arrange for identified staff in-services when needed.
  • Accountable for appropriate time management and utilization in the patient care areas.
  • Responsible for staff development and motivation.
  • Assists with patient care areas when need arises.
  • Oversees staff meetings of patient care personnel.
  • Collaborate with Managers, Sr. Director of Medical Operations and Medical Staff to ensure maximum utilization of operating room time, instrumentation and equipment, pre-operative and post-operative time, anesthesia services and adequate staffing for safe and efficient ambulatory patient care.
  • Collaborates with the Sr. Director of Medical Operations to ensure patient care is delivered in a safe, cost-effective manner.
  • Oversees personnel regarding equipment repair and scheduled periodic services.
  • Reports to Sr. Director of Medical Operations at designated intervals, all related clinical, regulatory and operational information.

Other Functions:

  • Enforces Company policies and safety procedures.
  • Regularly updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Performs other duties within skill set as assigned.

Education, Licensure and Experience

  • Must hold a current RN license from the California Board of Nursing.
  • BLS required
  • Minimum of 5 years nursing management experience, preferably in Surgical/Endoscopy environment.
  • Minimum 5 years clinical management experience, preferably in a Surgical/ Endoscopy ASC.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in surgical/recovery nursing.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of State, Federal and Accrediting Body regulations and standards related to Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
  • Able to work independently and meet established deadlines.
  • Able to make sound, reasonable decisions.
  • Highly organized with the ability to concentrate on many detailed requests despite numerous interruptions.
  • Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, openness, and receptiveness to change. Displays creativity and innovation.
  • Ability to identify and calmly handle inherently stressful situations with tact.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships with physicians, corporate staff, hospital partners and ASC staff.
  • Must be able to pass the state-required pre-employment physical exam.
