Assistant Professor, Communication Studies (Pelican Bay State Prison and Del Norte Campus)

The successful candidate for this full-time, tenure-track position will be responsible for teaching a full range of lower-division courses including, but not limited to, Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Mass Communication, Intercultural Communication, Introduction to Communication, and Small Group Communication, and to participate in the development of new courses. Courses will be primarily offered to incarcerated students inside Pelican Bay State Prison and secondarily at the Del Norte Campus in Crescent City, CA. Teaching assignments in the college’s innovative Pelican Bay program will include night and possibly weekend assignments. The position may also involve teaching courses through on-line or other distance modalities.
The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2024.
Starting Salary: $72,440 - $98,637/Annually (Salary range continues to a maximum of $152,065 based on education)

Additional Qualifications: Must be able to pass a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation background check.
Education and Experience Minimum requirement: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication OR bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND master’s degree in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English OR the equivalent.
Preferred academic preparation: Strong preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed a broad range of communication studies courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Position requires a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
