ECA - 2020 Convention - Call for Papers ... Interpretation and Performance Studies Interest Group Call for Papers

ECA-111th Convention - Interpretation and Performance Studies Interest Group Call for Papers

CFP Eastern Communication Association: Interpretation and Performance Interest Group

The deadline for receiving submissions is October 15, 2019.

The Interpretation and Performance Studies Interest Group is requesting paper, panel, and performance submissions for the 111th Annual ECA Convention in Baltimore, MD. The convention theme, Harboring Innovation, provides us with the opportunity to consider the lessons the city has to offer communication scholars. The theme focuses on how we have innovated and how we need to innovate to remain relevant, cutting-edge, and unique—especially in relation to other social science disciplines.  In what ways does our scholarship and teaching keep the field at the forefront of studying the powerful impact of public, private, and mediated messages on our relationships, organizations, communities, and the environment?  What disruptions are communication scholars, performance artists, practitioners, and teachers responding to innovative theories, questions, methods, data analysis techniques, and practices? What opportunities exist for us to innovate with our performances, research, service, pedagogy, and practice? What are you doing that is unique? How are you leading the way?  How are you responding to your environment to ensure that your work and our field are addressing the practical communication concerns of society that exist today and that might arise tomorrow?

The field of performance studies insists that creative, participant-centered, and narrative research is a way to make sense of the world, especially in this contentious political climate. We believe that performance is an avenue to imagine, play, and create futures in which we want to live. We are interested in submissions that point to ways of creating sustainable futures free from oppression and injustice.

Papers and panel/program proposals must be submitted electronically by, October 15, 2019 at 11:59 PM.

ECA will now be using Attendee Interactive to manage submissions and reviews. This is the same system used by the National Communication Association so you may be familiar with it.
