116th Eastern Communication Association Annual Convention
Theme: “Contemporary Problems, Creative Solutions”

The Interpersonal Communication Interest Group invites both paper and panel/program submissions for the 116th Eastern Communication Annual Convention to be held at the Hyatt Regency in Buffalo, NY from March 26-March 30, 2025. The theme “Contemporary Problems, Creative Solutions” asks us to consider the following questions:
- What contemporary problems and issues exist within or related to the context of interpersonal relationships?
- How can we use interpersonal communication to creatively address contemporary problems and issues across societal, environmental, geopolitical, technological, and economic issues and contexts?
- What steps can we take to prepare undergraduate and graduate students to develop and implement creative solutions to those problems?
Paper Submissions
Completed papers that report original research, provide an extensive literature review, or showcase some other form of scholarship are invited. Papers should be a maximum of 25 double-spaced pages (excluding title page, abstract, references, and appendices), comply with the APA 7th edition guidelines, and be submitted as a PDF. Remove all identifying information (author name, university affiliation) in the document file before making your submission.
In addition, paper submissions must include the following elements:
- A paper title.
- An abstract.
- An indication of “Student Paper” if the work is authored solely by graduate or undergraduate students.
- An indication of “Debut” if a paper is written by authors who have not presented previously at a regional or national convention.
- For papers with multiple authors, an indication of who will present the paper.
- The statement of professional responsibility that appears below.
Panel/Program Submissions
We welcome submissions for a variety of programs including thematic paper panels, roundtable discussion panels, and other creative formats that support the convention theme. Submitters are highly encouraged to include participants from more than one institution.
Panel submissions must include the following elements and be submitted as a PDF.
- A thematic title for the panel/program.
- An indication of the panel/program chair and respondent (if applicable). Participants are discouraged from playing multiple roles (e.g., chair and respondent).
- Names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and institutional affiliations of all participants including the chair and respondent.
- A panel/program description (75 words maximum) for the final program.
- A detailed rationale for the panel/program.
- Titles and abstracts for each speaker’s contribution (if applicable).
- The statement of professional responsibility that appears below.
Statement of Professional Responsibility
In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/We agree to present this panel or paper if it is accepted and programmed. I/We further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA’s annual meeting must register and pay required fees.
