The Instructional Communication Interest Group invites completed papers, panels, round table discussions, and workshop session proposals that focus on the convention theme: Contemporary Problems, Creative Solutions. We are excited to convene in Buffalo, NY, a city rich in history and culture, offering numerous attractions including the Buffalo Museum of Science, Buffalo AKG Art Museum, and the historic waterfront at Canalside.
In keeping with the theme of Contemporary Problems, Creative Solutions, we invite you to consider submissions that address the pressing issues and innovative responses in the field of instructional communication, including but not limited to:
- How can the instructional communication discipline provide creative solutions to contemporary societal, environmental, geopolitical, technological, and economic challenges?
- How can we best prepare undergraduate and graduate students through instructional communication to creatively address contemporary challenges?
- How can we extend the impact of instructional communication scholarship, teaching, and practice to diverse settings and contexts beyond the traditional classroom?
The Instructional Communication Interest Group at ECA utilizes Attendee Interactive for all submissions and blind reviews. The link for submissions is: https://ww4.aievolution.com/eca2501/

- If the paper has multiple authors, please indicate who will be presenting at the convention.
Submission Guidelines for Panel Proposals, Round Table Discussions, and Workshop Sessions
In addition to traditional panel submissions in which three to four speakers present individual papers on a specific topic area, consider submitting panels that are unique in composition and format. For instance, you might consider proposing a workshop session led by two or three experts on a particular topic with audience involvement and participation. You might also consider submitting a round table discussion featuring 5-8 presenters who share their positions on a focused topic moderated by a chair.
Submissions of panel/program proposals must include the following elements saved in a PDF file:
- A thematic title for the program.
- Contact information for a chair and a respondent (if applicable). Chairs should not also be designated as respondents.
- Names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and institutional affiliations of all participants.
- A program copy (no more than a 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program.
- A detailed rationale for the program/panel.
- Titles and abstracts for each speaker’s contribution (if applicable).
- A statement of professional responsibility:
In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/We agree to present this panel or paper if it is accepted and programmed. I/We further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA’s annual meeting must register and pay required fees.
Submitters are encouraged to create panels/programs comprised of individuals from different institutions. Chairs and respondents should typically not also serve as panelists.
Additional Guidelines:
- Presenters are encouraged to present without technology. Please note that a paper or panel should be submitted to only one (1) interest group for consideration.
- Submissions must be saved as PDF files.
- Anticipated Convention Acceptance Notifications: January 2025
