Call for Papers
Philosophy of Communication Interest Group
“Contemporary Problems Creative Solutions”

2025 Eastern Communication Association Conference

Hyatt Regency, Buffalo NY
March 26th-March 30th, 2025

Submission Deadline:  October 16, 2024 11:59 (PST)

The Philosophy of Communication Interest Group is requesting paper and panel submissions for the 113th Annual ECA Convention in Buffalo, NY. The convention theme, “Contemporary Problems, Creative Solutions”, emphasizes the importance of addressing contemporary problems like social justice, AI, higher education, curriculum changes, current politics, workplace issues among others. As philosophers of communication, attending to such contemporary issues may reveal deeper questions that lend to the proposal of creative solutions. For example, the study of classical rhetoric provides tremendous insight into our contemporary problems in politics. The ancient polis struggled to stabilize under the influence of both wealthy and ambitious politicians. Similarly, the invention of AI has generated substantial questions about the nature of education, the role of the human, and what tasks a human ought to do to preserve the meaningfulness of work.  At this year’s conference we welcome individual paper and panel submissions that incorporate problems and creative solutions into philosophy of communication research, pedagogy, and/or practice.

Papers and panel proposals must be submitted electronically by October 16, 2024 at 11:59 PM (PST).  The Philosophy of Communication Interest Group of ECA utilizes Attendee Interactive to manage all submissions and blind-reviews.

The Philosophy of Communication Interest Group invites two types of submissions:
