IME Applauds Senate Passage of the Transportation Security Screening Modernization Act

WASHINGTON – The President of the Institute of Makers of Explosives (IME), Clark Mica, released the following statement after Senate passage of the Transportation Security Screening Modernization Act:

“Today’s transportation workers, including those who transport commercial explosives, face a number of duplicative background checks and fees that increase costs and decrease efficiency in the system. The Transportation Security Screening Modernization Act is important because it streamlines the process by allowing workers to apply existing valid background checks to multiple TSA-managed credentialing programs, such as the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and Hazardous Materials Endorsement (HME) programs – without compromising security.”

“We’re grateful for the leadership of Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS), Jon Tester (D-MT), Deb Fischer (R-NE) and Angus King (I-ME) to get this bill passed in the Senate. We urge House Leadership to act quickly to bring this commonsense legislation to the floor to ensure passage before the 118th Congress adjourns.”
