IME Applauds Senate Passage of the Transportation Security Screening Modernization Act
IME President Clark Mica: "Today’s transportation workers, including those who transport commercial explosives, face a number of duplicative background checks and fees that increase costs and decrease efficiency in the system. The Transportation Security Screening Modernization Act is important because it streamlines the process by allowing workers to apply existing valid background checks to multiple TSA-managed credentialing programs."

IME Applauds DOD Award to Construct Domestic TNT Production Facility
In the commercial explosives industry, TNT is a key raw material for producing cast boosters, a commercial explosive product which is widely used in the $121.7 billion mining industry and the $2.2 trillion quarry and construction industries. Without these products, essential infrastructure projects like roads, bridges, tunnels and pipelines - would be severely hampered.

IME Honors Six Member Companies with Highest Safety Award
At its 2024 Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet, the Institute of Makers of Explosives (IME) recognized member companies with the Tricia Appleton Award for Safety which is the organization’s highest award given to those member companies with zero recordable safety incidents the previous year.

IME Awards Seven Companies With Certificates for Safety and Health Excellence
During the Institute of Makers of Explosives (IME) 2024 Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet, the IME awarded seven member companies with its annual Safety and Health Certificates of Excellence given to IME member companies with a total recordable incident rate (TRIR) better than the average overall rate achieved by the chemical manufacturing industry for the year 2023.

The new publication, titled SLP-33: Guide to Explosives & Blasting Agents, addresses safety in the manufacturing of explosives and blasting agents, and addresses elements of process safety management that are directly relevant to explosives manufacturing, storage, and use.

IME Urges Amendment to Include Class B Drivers for HazMat
The Strengthening Supply Chains Through Truck Driver Incentives Act would provide a $7,500 tax credit for each qualified licensed commercial truck driver and up to $10,000 in tax credits for each employee registered in trucking apprenticeships.
