Director of Nursing (DON)

Under the direction of the Administrator, the Clinical Director of Nursing has 24-hour responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures of the center and their effect on patient care. The Clinical Director of Nursing has authority to make decisions in the center in the areas of patient care, human resource and clinical financial management. The Clinical Director of Nursing has overall responsibility for clinical operations within the center.

Duties, Responsibilities, Competencies

1. Demonstrates the ability to communicate the center’s mission, vision and values, as well as center goals, to all staff. 2. Provides supervision, leadership, and guidance to other leaders and staff in goal setting, problem solving, resource management, outcome achievement, and promotion of team cohesion. 3. Demonstrates staffing accountability through planning, assigning, directing work of subordinate staff, including interviewing, hiring, training, and appraising performance in a timely manner 4. Evaluates performance objectives and metrics for the center and assesses the level of competence of staff in a timely manner. 5. Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling the desired behaviors and encouraging those in others, including through rewarding and disciplining direct reports and addressing complaints and resolving problems 6. Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage change effectively, as well as help others do the same. 7. Coordinate the action of and maintain records (along with the Admin.) for fire drills & other applicable life safety requirements. 8. Demonstrates fiscal accountability for center resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources. 9. Incorporates quality improvement data and/or patient satisfaction data into center goals. 10. Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and/or other center functions. 11. Effectively oversees the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and committees. 12. Appropriately documents all requested reports for benchmarking, scorecards, and meeting minutes in a timely manner 13. Maintain budget items assigned by leadership: Hours / case, pharmaceutical expenses, and any other assigned areas 14. Works in collaboration with Materials Manager to manage effectively manage supply costs and cost-savings initiatives. 15. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities.

Requirements 1. Graduate of accredited school of nursing 2. RN with active license in appropriate state 3. BLS/ACLS certification, PALS preferred 4. Healthcare-management experience, minimum 3 yrs 5. Evidence of leadership qualities 6. Strong ethical and moral character references 7. Language skills: adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English 8. Math Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. 9. Computer literacy including: email, spreadsheet, word processing, 10. Must be able to work variable hours and flex with the surgical schedule and staffing needs

Preferred 1. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing 2. ASC experience (3+ years)
