OAASC to Explore Data Reporting Alternatives

While the legislature takes its summer break, representatives of the OAASC's Government Affairs and Quality and Clinical Outcomes Committees remain hard at work on an issue for next year.

The two committees are looking at what data ASCs should be reporting to allow health care consumers best judge the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of Ohio's ASCs.

Discussions Continue on Dual Licensure

ODH Drafting Official Opinion

The OAASC continues working with the Ohio Department of Health to resolve a licensure conflict throughout the state. OAASC brought the issue to ODH's attention after several members reporting conflicting instructions from the Department on the need for both an ASC and Freestanding Imaging Center license.

OAASC Member Meets with Congressional Representative to Discuss ASC Legislation

Congresswoman Pledges Support

Representatives from OAASC member Wildwood Surgery Center in Toledo recently hosted a meeting with Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Toledo) to discuss the ASC Medicare Modernization legislation currently pending before Congress.

Rep. Kaptur shared her concerns about the state of health care delivery system in the nation but acknowledged the importance of ASCs and the efficiencies they bring to the system. She agreed to co-sponsor the legislation, which is still in a legislative committee.

Congressional Senate Democrats Poised to Move on Medicare Bill Under Veto Threat

Senate Democrats will move forward with their own Medicare bill in the next two weeks, but a White House veto threat delivered during negotiations will almost certainly force a compromise later this month. Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D‑Mont., is writing the bill, the centerpiece of which is a proposal to stop a 10.6 percent cut to Medicare's physician payment rates that is scheduled to take effect July 1.
