Asim Haque looking to bring steady hand to PUCO

If you ask Asim Haque, the new Public Utilities Commission of Ohio chairman, how to pronounce his name, he says it’s just like “awesome hawk.”

Haque, 36, was sworn in as chairman in May, the fourth person in the role in less than four years. He is hoping to bring a steady hand as the office works through controversial issues, including various proposals to boost incomes for electricity utilities.

“It is a very, very delicate balance, and it’s an extraordinarily challenging balance,” he said, about the need to consider all sides in cases.

He was appointed to the five-member commission in 2013 and then promoted to chairman, selected both times by Gov. John Kasich, a Republican.
