Charter hires another former Cablevision exec, names Montemagno EVP of program acquisition
Charter Communications has named Tom Montemagno executive VP of program acquisition, continuing a string of former top Cablevision executives in the wake of its recent expansion.
Montmagno will be based out of Charter’s Stamford, Connecticut headquarters and report to another recently hired former Cablevision exec, Charter senior executive VP David Ellen.
Ellen’s hiring in early July was followed closely by the tapping of former Madison Square Garden Group executive Michael Bair to lead Charter newly acquired news and regional sports programming networks. Also, Cablevision veteran Clifford Harris was named senior VP of law, programming, product and regulatory for Charter.
As for Montemagno, he’ll oversee negotiations with Charter’s program suppliers, which range from media conglomerates to regional sports networks to local broadcasters.
At Cablevision, he notably carved out several innovative deals, including a pact to integrate Hulu service into Cablevision’s video interface.
Montemagno’s hiring follows the departure of longtime Charter programming executive Allan Singer in July. Singer was replaced on an interim basis by Andrew Rosenberg, who came aboard when Charter’s Time Warner Cable acquisition closed in May. Rosenberg will stay with Charter, serving as a “top deputy” to Montemagno.
