Technology plan for the future: MCTV to install fiberoptic cable lines to your door

Over the next few years, MCTV will begin installing a fiber-to-home network to every customer it serves, which will mean greater bandwidth available in the future and faster internet speeds.

In a world where greater bandwidth and high-speed are the buzz words, MCTV is doing what it can to stay ahead of the cable technology game.

The Massillon-based cable provider announced Monday it is rolling out a fiber-to-the-home network to every customer in its service area. It is among the first cable TV operators to bring the technology to Northeast Ohio, said company President Bob Gessner at a Monday news conference that drew U.S. Rep. Bob Gibbs, R-Lakeville, to Stark County.

Excellerate allows MCTV to offer symmetrical internet service — giving all customers the same download and upload speeds. The new technology also increases the dependability of the service, decreases maintenance costs and increases the company’s ability to meet the future technology needs of its customers.

After announcing the new technology, Gessner offered local officials, business leaders and guests a hands-on demonstration of how the fiberoptic lines are installed.

Customers, Gessner said, likely won’t notice a big change as the new technology is installed. Excellerate will offer the same types of services the current network provides.
