Board of Directors Award: MCTV launches a new technology upgrade

WOOSTER — The locally-owned and operated MCTV is this year’s recipient of the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Award.

Each year, the Chamber strives to recognize businesses that demonstrate a willingness to actively support its community, as well as events, projects and nonprofit organizations.

“MCTV has been a longstanding supporter of the Chamber and business community through philanthropic donations and significant investments in their business services that have supported the growth of businesses in the Wooster area and the betterment of our citizenry,” said Justin Starlin, president of the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce.

President of MCTV Robert Gessner was honored the Chamber recognized his company’s contributions, but said, “No one becomes a part of the Chamber for awards. We want to help attract new businesses to the area.”

MCTV provides high-speed internet, digital TV, residential and commercial phone and security systems for many Wooster area businesses as well as local residents. In the last five years, the company has shifted its focus to internet service.

“If we fail to give [area businesses] the bandwidth they need, they will go elsewhere,” Gessner said. “It’s important for any community to keep business and people local.”

During 2017, MCTV began building a state-of-the-art fiber to the home network known as the Excelerate Project. The new network will come online over the next 18 months and 35 percent is completed with Excelerate services available to 10,000 homes.

“We want to provide business and residences with telecommunication services for the indefinite future,” the president said.

Excelerate will provide greater service for machine-to-machine communication, increased online viewing and uploading, 4K video and more. The new network rates will cost the same as current internet rates.

“We will continue to build on our great foundation to stay attractive to businesses and industry,” Gessner said.
