OCTA Now Ohio’s Broadband and Cable Association

Name change better reflects the industry & the association’s membership

COLUMBUS, OH (January 18, 2022) - Today, the Ohio Cable and Telecommunications Association (OCTA) is announcing a name change to OCTA - Ohio’s Broadband and Cable Association. This change better aligns with the evolution of the industry and the scope of the association’s membership.

“Our industry is ever-evolving, and the name change to Ohio’s Broadband and Cable Association better reflects our membership,” explained the group’s Executive Director David Koren. “Our mission to represent our members in the Ohio General Assembly, Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), Congress and the courts does not change nor will our familiar name: OCTA.”

“Ohio has seen great growth in broadband connectivity and speeds over the last two years,” said the association’s Board President Gary Underwood, who is with OCTA member company Charter Communications. “Our members continue to lead in technological advances, and today’s name change announcement to OCTA - Ohio’s Broadband and Cable Association is a reflection of these advances.”

The association strongly supported Ohio House Bill 2 that provides $250 million in grant monies for continued broadband expansion in the state. This legislation will keep Ohio’s broadband expansion plans moving forward.

“In today’s economy, having access to reliable and fast broadband and cable is a vital part of our state’s infrastructure,” said Koren. “Recently passed state and federal legislation will allow our services to be available to more people and businesses than ever before. Our membership is excited about the association’s future and the name change, which better reflects their core business.”

Ohio’s Broadband and Cable Association has 13 System Member companies and 24 Associate Member companies. According to October 2021 data, the broadband and cable industry has a total annual economic impact of $13.8 billion in Ohio and provides 83,216 and indirect jobs to Ohioans.
